On May 23rd, Via Gerbi Campo Scuola will host the 14th edition of “Grifone Meeting,” international track and field event bringing for the first time top-level athletics in Asti. The event is scheduled just two weeks before the European Championships in Rome (June 7-12): for many athletes, it will be the last chance to achieve qualifying standards. .
“Grifone Meeting” – held until 2023 at the Zecchini Stadium in Grosseto – has seen many world-ranking athletes compete in past editions: Andy Diaz, 2023 Diamond League winner and Italian triple jump record holder (17.75 mt); Zane Weir, shot put PB 22.45 mt; Larissa Iapichino, long jump PB 6.97; Kenyan Ferdinand Omanyala, African 100 mt record holder (9”77). In 2023, “Grifone Meeting” ranked in top 100 track and field events worldwide for results.
«I moved to Piedmont 3 years ago – says meeting director Elisabetta Artuso – and continuing to organize the event in Tuscany has become too difficult. We believe Asti is the best place to continue the meeting’s legacy: recently refurbished track and jump platforms promise high standard results. Grifone Meeting is managed by Durbano Gas Energy staff, our partner in La Mandria International since 2022. Regione Piemonte gives us its support and in Asti we found cooperation both from Municipality and track and field clubs Vittorio Alfieri, Athletics 2.2 and Brancaleone».
«Regione Piemonte is proud to host such an important event», says says Fabrizio Ricca, regional Councilor for Sports. «In recent years, we understood that investing in sporting events is not only a driver of economic growth for the area, but also a promotion of a healthy lifestyle. I’m sure that the echo of this event will bring many young people closer to athletic disciplines».
